Project Description
A couple of months ago my younger brother Matt asked me if I’d be interested in making him a coffee table. I was between art pieces so the timing was great for a piece of furniture. The only request he made was for me to reuse the glass top from his old table. Otherwise, he said “do your thing….metal, wood..GO!”. I knew I’d enjoy the engineering part, and I’d also have a chance to repurpose the glass, so I was IN.
After careful consideration, my goal was to create something very masculine, but simple, spacious in design. The frame is constructed of 19 pieces of steel, welded, ground and polished for a seamless finish. I designed the frame to have a missing a center cross-member (on the couch side) to create an open view to the studded ebony-stained “floating” shelf below.
Matt was thrilled and I had a blast in the process. Good stuff!!
